Convincing skills can be a good and bad trait of leadership. Traits theories: are leaders different from others? (extraversion, sociable, conscientiousness) Behavioral theories: do leaders behave in a particular way? (employee, production oriented) Assumes leadership is inherent, so we must identify the leader based on his or her traits. Heroism can be found in many spheres of life, eg. whistleblowers, explorers, scientists. Heroism not a consequence of dispositional tendencies but emerging for particular situation, eg. ww2. Theories proposing that specific behaviors differentiate leaders from non-leaders. Leadership is a skill set and can be taught to anyone, so we must identify the proper behaviors to teach potential leaders.
