There are faculties in the stomach, heart, etc.
Each of the effects come from a certain activity, and each of these again are
preceded by a cause
An example: digestion
The act of digesting is performed by the faculty of alteration/assimilation
This faculty is in all parts of the body and attracts and processes the
nutriment it needs
To maintain contact it requires a retentive faculty
Retentive faculty is demonstrated through visible action of large retentive
organs, stomach and uterus
When the uterus has finished its work of forming the baby, it stops the
retentive faculty and activates the expulsive faculty
He thought that the blood was manufactured
The fumes from the vital heat of the lungs get sent back and expired through
the breath
The aorta has a pulsative faculty
