Author should tell you about literature surrounding the subject and why they are writing the book (new interpretation, new approach, something that hasn"t been covered before, etc. ) The way in which the author makes the argument. Problematic of what you can deduce from the evidence. Evaluate the work and say whether it is successful and convincing in its argument and whether the argument has done a good job or not. Or if there are problems - too limited, to broad and makes conclusions the author can"t support on the basis of the evidence. Try to some degree see whether the author has a convincing work and adds knowledge to the subject. Antiquity and ancient literature became important in particular moments, especially the 12th century renaissance but also the 15th and 16th.
