Strategic bombing and the war in the air. Much of germany in 1945 and almost all of japan is destroyed. Millions of millions of acres of territory are rubble. Millions of japanese and german citizens are homeless, or made small houses out of rubble of former buildings. The rubble itself is lying on top of the remains of 100,000s of their citizens. Today we discuss how this can be traced back to the use of airpower to target a country"s cities and civilian population: strategic bombing . This is the other half of the idea of a total war. " people were not only mobilized by their governments on the home fronts, but they also became legitimate targets, as never done before to the same extent.
