Document Summary

Lecture 9 - the south sea bubble and the regime of s. Run by the anglican church in a rural setting, was transferred to the urban cities in england. Cities were driving change that the government was unable to deal with effectively. One of the crisis that afflicted the state was a financial crisis, out of the crisis developed closer state regulation of the economy and a more tightly regulated political state. We think of a state being responsible for people on an individual basis. This is not the case for the 18th century british state, the administration was centered around war and finance and didn"t think it had a responsibility for the population. First british police force was developed in 1749. Police only operated in london and were a precursor to a professional police developed in the 1800s. The crime rate was linked to the end of the war when thousands of demobilized soldiers were pouring back into london.
