Apartheid was a response to the issues that were prominent and laws that were breaking down. 1902: cape based south african native congress. 1902: african political organization (dr. a. abduraham) 1910: walter rubansa of the sanc elected to the cape. Shows the organization is trying to incorporate what it sees as a functioning constituency. There were women in the early anc but they were not in the leadership roles. They were there to make a serious political case. They were representing themselves as civilized, wealthy and therefore they should be deserving of rights. John dube was an admirer of booker t washington. Washington was involved in creating industrial schools that gave skills to africans. She was one of the most important women in this organization. She organized an anti-pass law protest with women specifically when pass laws were imposed on women for the first time.
