Those working in tourism industry/who had family in us had better access to us dollars/valuable second currency. John f. kennedy"s alliance for progress (1961--)--us response to cuban revolution. Us feared that cuban rev would spread across lat amer. Us increased military relationships w lat amer forces. Afp was big aid package aimed at developing middle classes w goal of preventing revolutions. Also encouraged land reform to increase peasant loyalty to govt--wasn"t ever really carried out. Small communist movements/parties formed in lat amer in 1920s/30s. Soviet texts explored by mexicans--tho after mex rev. Tho really not that radical--wanted to be legal, main focus was on preventing spread of fascism, didn"t see potential for revolution of the proletariat.
