HIST 332 Lecture 17: Lecture 17 - Religious Experiences
Document Summary
Women were expected to dedicate particular attention to religion. Religion was thought to be a way in which they could fix their naturally wicked nature. They did make devotion and religious concerns often central to their lives. Typical of even domestic life and it was possible to see women"s household tasks as having religious significance. Women were responsible for creating a religious atmosphere in their homes. They had to bring up children in it as well. They were urged to have images of the virgin or of saints or. Christ at home so they could tell the children the stories of these saints and inspire children to imitate these ideals and gain piety as well as good morals. Women did tend to use their spare time at home to read devotional texts and to pray with the use of the texts even to the point of actually following the church"s schedule.
