Bosnian serb shelling of serbia"s main market caused sharp nato response--aerial bombing on b-s forces inflicting major damage. Oct 12 ceasefire, dayton oh peace talks, contact group (great powers) coordinating settlement, signed in 1995. 200,000 killed, 40,000 women raped, half pop displaced, of that half, half had fled. Coordinated plan of diff actions aiming @ destruction of foundations of natl groups w aim of annihilation . Un/great powers had agreed to prevent/punish genocide--calling it genocide would mean legal ob to get involved. Un deff includes acts w/ intent to destroy group. Deliberately inflicting conditions intended to bring abt phys destruction. No grand plans to eliminate all serbs or croats, tho there was talk of eliminating all bosniaks. After 4 yrs of war, 3 yrs of peace. International peacekeeping force lasted until 2004, when eu force took over. In croatia, any opposition to tudjman"s regime was fined/suppressed.
