After ferdinand"s death (1516) charles became effective ruler of all of spain. Revolt when he did come (came 1yr later and with many foreigners), was able to win against nobility. Ferdinand and isabella governed with lesser nobility, leaving greater nobility with land and positions and used them for military purposes. Once charles recovered spain, he did make spain center of his empire by learning spanish and making it the language of spanish (except in roman empire where german or latin). Tried to appoint spaniards to all the positions he could (though wasn"t supposed to in roman empire). Once revolt put down, castilians in particular had little grounds for resistance to charles"s demands, castile became major source of funds for charles.
