Cemal pa a--minister of the navy, commanded oe forces in arab lands in wwi. 3 pasas called below average and simple minded individuals . Seen as foolish, given that trip alliance was surrounded. Called to all muslims around the world to come to their aid--this didn"t. The last chance of the empire? really happen. Need for a strong ally to safeguard ottoman territories. Open discussion re: dismantling/dividing oe in eur circles. Previously, gp wars had not lasted long. Military tactics had not involved complete obliteration. Has only been recently commemorated as turkey begins to assert itself as regional power. Desire for war was present among both upper and lower classes. Early on, oe was able to stop russian advance. But tried to counterattack in winter and failed. Greece had been big winner in bws.
