First event on the major global scene; spanish america was part of the spanish kingdoms so the war affects spanish american politics. Coalition england, netherlands, holy roman empire, portugal enter into war against france and spain. Because france was allied with spain french ships were allowed to go to south america spain invaded for a short period of time; war ended with the treaty of utrecht in 1713. One of the most important consequences: allowed for the entrance of imperial powers in spanish.
