1st part of the course: chronological approach of history of medicine from classical antiquity until the 18th century. 2nd part of the course: chronological approach will be transformed once the 19th century begins; new medical paradigm replaces the old one. Western traditional medicine is really dominant (refer to timeline from lecture 1). Most of the timeline is the western traditional medicine. This is a period when the kind of paradigm is really dominant. The modern medical paradigm radically dismantles everything before it (western traditional medicine) The period around when harvey is around is when some of this dismantling begins to occur. Divided into 2 parts: antiquity to the renaissance, renaissance to the enlightenment (where modernity is beginning) Bird"s eye view 1 from antiquity to the renaissance: layered frameworks. Picture 1: finding the vein in the arm as an experimental way to show that the blood flows from the heart to the extremities and then back to the heart again.
