Galen"s public demonstration in rome as a dissector and the way he could resolve problems of anatomy and physiology using dissection. Even though galen never dissected human beings, he was a true believer in the value of repeated dissection. The fact that galen puts into his writings the value of dissection inscribes the anatomical body into the program of good medicine. Galen"s dissection program fed into his concern of creating a uni ed system of medicine. He strives for a uni ed art of medicine that depends on a profound understanding of the body. Episteme of strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, as well as a hippocratic emphasis on experience at the bedside. This is what galen is trying to do. Galen"s system of medicine is made up of lots of components: Platonic anthology (his in uence on medicine is signi cant with galen) Aristotelian biology (aristotle"s ideas about animal life)
