Israeli policy during first war was one of ethnic cleansing, not genocide. Changes during 1967 war--israel takes complete control. Immigration of holocaust survivors was seen as strategy to est jewish majority. Holocaust also seen as indication that european diaspora was doomed to fail. Nonetheless, many survivors held in deep suspicion, especially those from eastern eur. Survivors feel they can"t talk abt their experiences, feel pressure to take on new israeli identity. Only acts of resistance, like warsaw ghetto uprising, were talked abt. This attitude changes when israel arrests/puts on trial nazi leader adolf eichmann. But also subject to surveillance, military rule, attempts to take property. Right wing zionists, somewhat paradoxically, actually opposed this. Bc left wings had been trying to get arab votes--political move. Allys w britain/france for political reasons, despite past disputes, all anti-nasser. But us convinces uk/france to back off (due to oil interests) Despite taking much terr, eventually forced to retreat.
