Western civilization always starts with ancient sumerians than moves to greece then. Rome (europeaness doesn"t come in, until about 500 ad) Shift from mediterranean world (africa, asia, greece) and move to northern europe. Idea of europe comes from ancient greece idea of the world. Divide the world into 3 continents asia, europe, africa (t division, unequal division) Asia meant for them = turkey (anatolia), eastern side of the aegean sea, persian empire. Europe = everything on other side of greece. All this was what the greeks thought.
