Document Summary

Alexander was voted leader of the corinthian league. Standard rhetoric for kings to follow - he proclaims that the the greeks are free. They were only as free as the king wanted them to be. To make themselves appear more hellenistic macedonians took part in the olympic games, donated to temples of zeus and athena, adopted greek idiosyncrasies. Once thebes revolted and alexander smashed it supposedly leaving only the house of pindar standing. Alexander then invades persia with the macedonian army along with some greeks. He first lands and goes to troy to play it up - another iteration of east vs. west, greeks vs. troy all the way into greek prehistory. Also marches to the city of gourdia where there"s a knot that no one could untie for hundred of year apparently. Whoever could untie the knot would be the ruler of the persian empire. Alexander figures it out - he cuts it in half.
