The world of odysseus: the greek dark ages, signs of recovery. Iron age chiefdoms": nichoria and lefkandi, the world of odysseus. Around 1200/1100 bc theres large scales disruptions with people falling to raiders (sea people?) The palace system falls apart and on the other side of the destruction it"s a very different world with different organization: the greek dark ages. Little to no writing so we don"t have much information on this time period. Up until 700 bc we have no written sources from the greek world. Only the poems of homer can shed light on this time period (see if there is a seed of truth in the poems). The poems were composed around 720 bc, with the iliad a touch older than the. Added to and modified by different reciters; written down much later from when they were created (400 years after composition after much oral change).
