One theory: look at variability in oxygen isotope, climate is more regulated, this leads to population starts to grow due to little variability. Temperate drift shift in the center of economic gravity over time away from the equator with development of agriculture. Resource curse countries with abundant oil/ other natural resources grow more slowly than those without. Certain geographic characteristics countries need one resource like coal to develop.
