Document Summary

Winter solstice: when the axis of rotation is at 23. 5 s, occurs december 21st. It is the winter for the northern hemisphere. This means that we have the shortest days and longest night (less sun time) Summer solstice: when the axis of rotation is at 23. 5 n, occurs june 21st. The water at the bottom heats and then expands and rises as it heats the upper layer (convection). There is more heat on land than in the water. (heat capacity of water is higher though) latent heat: transfer of heat through evaporation and storage of water vapor and the release of stored heat. The water freezes, but temperature does not change, energy is simply lost and condensation release energy (constant pressure). albedo: it is the amount of solar radiation which is reflected back into space. The albedo increases when sun rays hit snow, ice, and decreases when hitting water.
