Preventable mainly by avoiding smoking but can still get copd. Can improve lung function through pharmaceutical & improve muscular function with. Exercise but more management than treatment to prevent worse but rarely get better: copd = characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms breathlessness / cough / sputum. & alveolar abnormalities: copd = may be punctuated by periods of acute worsening of respiratory symptoms exacerbations. *usually caused by significant exposure to noxious particles or gases. Tobacco smoke / biomass fuel - for cooking in rural areas / air pollution. From upper airway infection = cause more rapid deterioration of disease. *so need to manage to prevent worsening of copd: copd = associated w/ significant concomitant chronic diseases = which increase its morbidity &
