Sound theoretical basis underlying research question/provide rationale-reason & purpose that indicate research worthy. Verifiable by experience data collected - new or old data from interview/measuring. Individual research findings used to establish general relationships. B/d into individual findings & then connect. Process recorded so findings can be reproduced & built upon - qualitative & quantitative. *true & reliable if someone else research again obtain same results. *usually used/taken account to form basis for something else. Go beyond descriptive research to begin looking at. 3- experimental research *not just looking for general pattern. Manipulate factors to observe effect (except in somewhat rare cases) Requires generation of numerical data ex: vo2/bmi: fundamentally based on. *assume numbers = accurate & best to measure variables.
