The earth spins on its access once in ~24 hrs. The part of the earth facing the sun experiences day. The rest of the planet does not have an unobstructed path to the sun, and experiences night. ~365 days and nights = 1 orbit around the sun or a year. Alternative conceptions: watts & konicek (reading from last week) Hard to give up, persistent, even in face of evidence. May appear to have learned something, but they just memorize and spit back. We can introduce alternative conceptions through teaching (e. g. humans not part of nature) Step 1: clarifying conceptions students were making statements that were not scientifically incorrect but they went against the aim of educational practices. These statements are called alternative conceptions: experience-based explanations constructed by a learner to make a range of natural phenomena and objects intelligible. This term encompasses misconceptions, however it also includes ideas that are counter to the goals of education.
