Many rules we learn are based on conventions, not universal truth. Note: next month of classes will be geared solely towards the final paper; no more exame after midterm. One of the goals of this course is to stretch our comfort zone. Notation in 14th century; ars nova ( new art ) Scholarly treatise around 1320; discusses ars nova for the first time.
