Theogony: we should focus on the summary of the theogony which was the lecture given in foundation myths. All lectures are going to be tested, including today"s lecture. Vi(e)rgil (70 bce 19 bce) aeneid is a story that virgil composed. Persian war; some people escape troy and go into italy to found rome. Gives rome a connection to the prestige of the iliad. At some point, goes into underworld and virgil does the most famous description of the place of the antiquity. By the time of virgil (700 years later), there is still the idea of a place where people are sent if they did wicked things: this is a place to be punished. By the time of virgil, the romans had adopted many features of greeks myths and religion. Are men who hated, long as life endured, Or tricked a humble friend; the men who grasped. At hoarded riches, with their kith and kin.
