A seller coming into the barn, the peasants are integrated with the landscape with their skin colour. Peasant kids, village school, nobody is paying attention, they"re all being scolded as they play. Gives a sense of the patrons for the peasant school and how these people look quite different that the middle and upper classes. This is the promise of education in this sense. The population growth was explosive in the 16th century from immigration from religions who sought freedom, internal migration from the rural to the urban areas. From the beginning to the mid 16th century, the population of amsterdam doubled. At first people could be banished from the city, executed, etc. As the population grew, the correction centre was created to reform people rather than getting rid of them. The citizens were trained to be better citizens. There were many houses of correction, in and out of amsterdam such as in delft as well.
