Ponce"s theory about the chronology and evolution of tiwanaku relates to gordon v. Childe"s theory, the fourth and fifth stage go beyond childe"s theory. The teacher will never test you on the graph. These two are the oldest identified monumental temples at the site. The form of the semi- subterranean temple is borrowed from earlier societies. Use of iconography to evoke the connection of an earlier time. Tiwanaku either copied or took architecture or other iconographic artifacts from earlier places. Also broadly equated with tiwanaku in stages 4 and 5. This is where building of new elite housing takes place. Central core becomes restricted to royal and elite houses. What we see is that these are clearly sculptures of the elite.
