In those days, philosophy was about history of languages, in particular, indo-european languages. He has another bachelor"s degree from oxford in classics. Childe was exposed to marx and engels while in university. When he returned to australia, he became deeply engaged in politics. He taught at many private schools for boys. He was fired from them due to being a socialist. That political affiliation was dangerous at that time, communism was something to be feared and suspicious of. At 35, he earned a professorship at edinburgh. European prehistory at the institute of archaeology in london.
