Cross fostering: when the adults of one species raise the young of another species. This was done with chimps and humans to see if we can teach them how to talk; experiments turned out to be unsuccessful. Experiment: raised the chimp as a child, avoiding language, using only signs. This experiment turned out to be successful; the chimps did acquire sign language, and from a very young age. With humans: initiate conversations and repair misunderstandings. Washoe (chimp) adopted 10 months old louis and the experiment were to see if he would learn sign language, from another chimp. Used in hiv, hepatitis, infectious disease, etc. They found that chimps had an amazing memory and could remember p. e.
