Cell bodies of photo receptors extend to outer & inner segments. 8- outer limiting membrane non-cellular = no cells just tight junctions- only seen when stained. Parts of photoreceptors cells = that actually absorb light. Epithelial cells pigmented - not neuronal so not directly involved in. More photoreceptors [10x] & less retinal ganglion cells. Input from many photoreceptors = not directly relayed.
