Document Summary

Organelle structure of plant cell is very similar to the animal cell. Polymer structure: hetero dimers of alpha and beta tubulins. Microtubules provide structure to cells and enable long-range transport. Cells produce something inside the nucleus that they need to carry to the plasma membrane, or if they need to bring something in (internalizing) from the plasma membrane to the nucleus. Microtubules serve as a roadways for the transport of the intercellular vesicles. Mitosis: when the cells break down its entire microtubule cytoskeleton rebuilds the structure known as mitotic spindle (responsible for segregating chromosomes) In neurons (developing/extending): thick bundles of microtubules that extend out to the neuron. Growth and shrinkage of those microtubules is what drives out the axons or dendrites. In cilia (hair like extension in the cell): tail in sperm. Microtubules in animal cells are organized by the centrosome. Minus end generally embedded in the microtubules organizing center. Microtubules are continuously built, broken down, and rebuilt.
