Document Summary

Lecture 6: plant body primary and secondary structure. Main stem, branches, leave, flowers and modifications of any of these parts. Roots and root branches and any modifications of these. Fibrous root system: many branches of equal or similar thickness. Leaf sheath, leaf blade, sometimes ligules and auricles. Leaf there is an axillary bud in the axil from which side branch grows out. Leaflet there is no such bud as the one in a simple leaf. These are all dicot leaves which have reticulate (network-like) venation. Rosettes - vertical elongation of the stem is suppressed. Opposite leaves each body part (vertical) is called an "internal"". Some leaf epidermal cells are modified into stomata. Stomata are located in the lower epidermis of leaf. In a stomata, there are guard cells, which have chloroplast in them. Regulate the opening and closing of stoma by regulating the hydrostatic pressure. Control the exchange of gas between the leaf and the atmosphere.
