Ibs also common in gad, but does not count as a symptom (would not be diagnosed with gad. Gad: must have first 2 criteria and 3 physiological factors. Biggest difference between stress and anxiety is : clinical impairment, feelings of lack of control. Excessive worry and anxiety about multiple events or topics (excessive and to the extreme) Experiences difficulties controlling the worry: differs from chronic worriers: a person may worry a lot but still feels in control over their life. At least 3 physiological symptoms: restlessness, on edge, easily fatigued, irritability, muscle tension (hallmark of gad, seperates it from depression), difficulty concentrating, sleep difficulty with only 2 symptoms) Time frame criteria: all symptoms must appear within the six months period. The biological model: no obvious brain issues have been discovered. But norepinephrine and serotonin seem to be involved (too much and too low respectively) Anxiotlytic drugs: gaba bind better, benzodiazepines such as xanax, ativan, but highly addicting.
