Document Summary

Genomics, epigenome, and personalized medicine including gene therapy. All cells have same genetic material in somatic cells; dna wrapped around histone proteins. Karotype map: we have 23 sets, each chromosome has a number of genes. Genes made out of dna: rungs of at and cg as base pairs determine traits (found in triplets, ex one dna triplet ata tcg would code for a certain protein). Genes are not one to one: multiple genes can effect one trait; in addition, the environment impacts how the gene will be expressed. E. g. huntington"s disease: caused by the presence of a single dominant gene; penetrance is. 100% (if you have the genes, you will have huntingtons, unless you die quite young (eg say age. Progressive brain deterioration starts in middle age, 100% fatal. Sequence of cgg for huntingtons; if overrepeated, huntington"s occurs but can vary in severity and age of onset.
