Know ks (kaposis sarcoma) and pcp (pneumocystis carinii pneumonia) Hiv transmission: unprotected sexual contact, sharing used needles, vertical transmission - mother to child, blood transfusion. Know which area has what sort of main transmission. Wash hands and wrists for 40sec w soap and water. Wear latex or vinyl gloves for touching blood and body fluids. Launder linens/clothes that have blood/fluids separate from all others on hot wash/dry. Remember: being at home is generally best option for patient, allows them to maintain as normal a life as possible - feel they have more freedom about choices.
