Document Summary

God limits divine power so that it obeys certain "rules" or "expectations": ordained power. By accommodating itself to humankind, then, the divine allows us to understand how to overcome our sinfulness. That is by following the path of sacramental theology which god has freely ordained for us: power and penance. On the sacramental path to salvation, the most arduous stage is that of penance. This is the sacrament that allows us to go from our state of sin to a state in which we can approach the eucharist: components of penance. Three concepts of penance: feeling contrite for one"s sin, confessing one"s sin to a priest, preforming works of satisfaction (prayers, almsgiving), penance and contrition. The component of penance that relates most to ordained power is contrition. Can anybody ever feel sufficiently contrite for sinning against their divine creator: sin and contrition. This question becomes pressing when we remember the original sin.
