Netherlands, he had a limited role because he had to accept the power of those assemblies: stadholder held a lot of executive power on behalf of the 7 provinces. They weren"t able to make a political philosophy out of divided power. In 1568, the dutch war of independence began. This was a reaction against absolutism/centralization: spain during the 16th century, was a growing absolutist power and wanted to centralize control over it"s diverse possession. It is also religious conflict because it"s a protestant rebellion against the catholic. Having a province where calvinism was practiced freely was not tolerated any longer. They wanted their own province to convert to catholicism.
