HIST-102 Lecture 7: The Reformations
Document Summary
Luther translated his thesis from latin to vernacular german and starts printing them and spreading them. They had a leader who articulated their demands, named thomas muntzer. Thomas thought everyone was equal in god"s eyes and decided who was noble, who was a serf and used martin luther"s ideas, which was religious egalitarianism; we are all christians, we worship together regardless of social class . He said religious liberation becomes social liberation, so they should get rid of the social classes, groups and institutions because all are equal to god. Luther came against the peasant revolt because it was too radical: he didn"t believe in social revolution. He believed people had rank and status: he believed the state was ordained by god to provide the peace and order to spread the message of gospel. He didn"t want violence: he is forced to acknowledge the prince"s support.
