Document Summary

I believe kant"s moral theory would best handle the example in which the villager is given a choice between killing one person and saving many or saving none but not killing one. My stance is that kant"s moral theory is a better way to approach this example and i will argue this by showing the unrealistic nature of mill"s version of utilitarianism and by illustrating the universality of kant"s moral theory. Kant"s moral theory or kantianism is used to determine what the best course of action in a dilemma. In kant"s moral theory it is important to look at one"s maxims, or intentions of a singular action (401). Kantians focus on deontology which means the rightness of action depends on its relation to duty (4:397). According to kant, humans are independent rational beings capable of making rational decisions who should be treated as an end itself rather than as means (430).
