Archaeplastids and introduction to kingdom plantae: supergroup archaeplastids. Polysaccharide extracted from the cell wall of red algae: carrageen another extract of red algae cell walls. Used to give thickness to foods such as dairy and soups. 5. 3b volvox: fresh water, colonial green algae, vegetative cells held together in a matrix, show evidence of socialization and division of labour among cells, daughter colonies released from parent colony when the parent colony disintegrates. 5. 3c ulva: commonly called sea lettuce, multicellular, has a complex alternation of generation lifecycle. Evidence for this exists in fossil records: the move to terrestrial habitats had benefits: ample sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients in the soil. 1. 1 phylum bryophyta: non vascular, includes living species of plants and mosses, mosses colonize bare rocks and soil. A cluster is sporangia: sporophylls leaves that bear sporangia, indusium shelf-like structure. The xylem makes up larger cells and is surrounded by the smaller cells of the phloem.
