ANTH-101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Social Stratification, Sensory Deprivation, Ouija
Document Summary
Religion set of attitudes, beliefs and practices pertaining to supernatural power, whether that power is forces, gods, spirits, ghosts, or demons. In our society we divide the phenomena into the natural and supernatural. Supernatural powers believed to be non-human or not subject to the laws of nature. Some variations of this are determined by what the society deems as natural. Beliefs about what is, or is not, supernatural occurrence also varies within a society at a given time or over time. What was once considered to be a supernatural force may not be considered as such anymore. In many societies what we consider religious is intertwined with many other aspects of that society. It is often difficult to separate the religious, economic or political from the other aspects of the culture. Various aspects of culture are not separate and easily recognized as they are complex societies like our own.
