Throughout history humans have changed or altered customary behaviours and attitudes as their needs have changed. No particular cultural practice is impervious to change. People may adopt the new behaviour or attitude willingly or may be forced to do so. For this reason cultural change may not be beneficial to everyone. Ethnogenesis new cultures and new identities arise. Globalization ongoing spread of cultural features around the world. Discoveries and inventions, that take place in or outside a culture, are generally the root cause of cultural change. These changes only take place when a society accepts the invention or discovery and uses it regularly though. The new thing discovered or invented can be an object or it may involve behaviour and ideas. A discovery is any addition to knowledge and an invention is a new application of knowledge. One type of invention is when the society sets itself a specific goal and creates something.
