Everyone else in the room are confederates (work with the experimenter) Group size - conformity increases as group size increases up to 4 or 5 confederates. Informational social in uence - we conform because we believe that others are right. Normative social in uence - ew conform to be accepted by other people. Form of compliance that occurs when people follow direct commands, usually from someone in a position of authority. Milgram (1963) - very controversial study on obedience. Critics argued that the short-term stress and potential long-term harm to participants could not be justi ed.
