DNA
-DNA was first being utilized in a case in 1985, so this is a very new type of evidence
-What is a picogram, x10 - what?
-You can replicate DNA cells with reagents, chemicals, and a hot plate with a timer,
which is useful to have an abundance amount of DNA to analyze before your original
DNA dies out
-At times the entire DNA is not kept, you will only get fragments of it
-There is such thing as touch DNA, that is left on things when your skin comes in
contact with it
-But the issue with this is that there is a lot of different DNA on one object, so there
must be a way to find the original one you may be looking for
-Red blood cells are the main component of blood, but these are a-nucleanated,
therefore there is no nucleus in it to be tested for
-Therefore we must use white blood cells, that have nucleus and can even have
multiple nucleus, to find DNA matches
-Mitochondria DNA comes from the mother, and nuclear DNA comes from the father
mtDNA
-Maternal Inheritance
-More plentiful than nDNA
-Smaller then nDNA
-Cannot identify individuals
-may preserve better in certain circumstances
-Probative value: how much will it be able to go into an investigation and give value to
the case, or further advance the case
-PMI (post mortem interval) in the sense of forensic entomology is not an accurate
name for this, because there is no way to fully be sure that the body was killed right
on scene since there are so many factors
-Period between the person died to the time the body was found
-The only 2 things that can be known certainly is where and when the body was found
Review of stages of Decomposition:

-drop in body temp
-odour is very low
Bloat

Document Summary

Dna was rst being utilized in a case in 1985, so this is a very new type of evidence. You can replicate dna cells with reagents, chemicals, and a hot plate with a timer, which is useful to have an abundance amount of dna to analyze before your original. At times the entire dna is not kept, you will only get fragments of it. There is such thing as touch dna, that is left on things when your skin comes in contact with it. But the issue with this is that there is a lot of different dna on one object, so there must be a way to nd the original one you may be looking for. Red blood cells are the main component of blood, but these are a-nucleanated, therefore there is no nucleus in it to be tested for.
