Document Summary

The phloem cells are aligned at functional maturity. Though the phloem cell alive, sieve tube members lack nucleus, ribosomes and a distinct vacuole. However, along side the sieve tube member, is a non-conducting cell called. Companion cell which contain these organelles and serve the sieve tube member through plasma desmata. The longitudinal section of the root shows the following regions; root cap, root apical meristem, zone of elongation and zone of maturation. The root cap has long been regarded as an organ controlling the geo-reaction of the root. In the central column of the root cap cells, in which starch-containing, a myloplast, acts as statoliths gravity sensors. The cortex is the region between the epidermis and the vascular cylinder (stele) The ground tissue of the cortex is mostly parenchyma, which mostly functions as storage, in some species the cortex may include collenchyma, mostly below the epidermis.
