Appearance: spindle-shaped cell with one nucleus, lack striations. Appearance: branched cells with a single nucleus striation with darker striations called intercalated disk between cells. Allows for communication between cells through sensory input, integration of data and motor output. Made of 2 major cell types: neurons and neuroglia (or just glia: nervous tissue - neurons. Made of dendrites, a cell body and an axon. These are long extensions that carry nerve impulses. A collection of cells that support and nourish neurons. Examples: oligodendrocytes: form myelin sheath in brain astrocytes: provide nutrients microglia: engulf bacteria and debris.
