Document Summary

Two major types of cells in all living organisms and cell structure. Prokaryotic cells thought to be the first cells to evolve lack nucleus represented by bacteria and archaea (2 domains of life) smaller circular. Eukaryotic cells (third domain of life) have a nucleus that houses dna many membrane-bound organelles. 1, receiving information: import and export capacity for movement and expansion. Contains carbohydrate on proteins and lipids on outer layer selectively permeable: membrane allows somethings in while keeping other substances out. Diffusion: random movement movement of molecules from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. Osmosis: movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration. Hypertonic: solution have more solute than the inside of the cell. Water flows downhill out of the cell cell shriveling eg: very high salt concentration in surrounding fluid, water travels out of cell to dilute.
