Cognitive development is a prerequisite for language development. Implications for the ece classroom: match learning activities with child"s stage of cognitive development, what stage/age, peek-a-boo, restaurant, blocks. Classroom: provide a wide range of social interactions, play with children, encourage children to play wih each other, games to learn social skills like turn-taking and sharing. Language requires effort and develops through a child"s active engagement with their environment.
