Universalism (theory) ex. linking it to the smell of coffee (smell, sensation) could be radically different depending on your cultural situation. An ecological sense of sound - we have to understand it ecologically, standing against universalism, and cultural relativism. Ex. before colonization, they used to drink water with two hands, and now they were told that it was acceptable to drink with one hand. (proprioception) They are two different approaches to understanding social life. An ideographic method focuses on individual cases or events. Ethnographers, for example, observe the minute details of everyday life to construct an overall portrait. A nomothetic method, on the other hand, focuses on general statements that account for larger social patterns that form the context of single events or individual behavior and experience. Pitfalls: theories are too generalized and often judge a group of people as a whole.
