Dogs take months to train, but bees take about 15 minutes or less. This is based on the pavlovian classical conditioning by pairing those smells and non-conditioned response (in the bees case it is sticking out it"s tongue). 3 months at most, so it is good that they don"t take long to train. The weather is all over the place, bees don"t take very well to temperature changes. Fruit flies have been used to detect lung cancer. What is really going on in the background is interesting. Simon did research with snails, who extent their little eye things in response. This was very looked into in neuroscience, and all of their slugs seemed to be conditioned. Simon could not get any of the slugs to work. The people who work with bees will tell you they are far from being reliable. May apply to animals that don"t even have brains.
